T-Mobile Sidekick II

The Sidekick II has had a lot of exposure in the celebrity limelight, but is it actually any good?

Now all this sounds a bit negative, but it does make clear some of the reasons I don’t like the Sidekick II. Let’s look at the other side of the coin, and see what is good about it.

T-Mobile Sidekick II Smart Phone

T-Mobile's Sidekick II is fun to use, with a comfortable keyboard and generally swift performance. But this PDA hybrid phone has a few weaknesses, mainly having to do with a poorly designed phone component.

Swivel design makes this fun to use Keyoard is comfortable for typing

Phone component seems poorly designed

The Sidekick II is pricey, at $300 (as of April 7, 2006, with a two-year contract). Though I liked the text input capability, I would wait for the price to drop before seriously considering adopting this model as my mobile messaging sidekick

T-Mobile Sidekick II (as smart phone)

We love the T-Mobile Sidekick II for what it is—a fun, cheery, phone/e-mail device.

Excellent screen, keyboard, and software for e-mail and instant messaging. Very easy to use.

Lousy camera. No direct connection to PC. Bulky.

T-Mobile Sidekick II

When closed, the device looks like a somewhat blocky, large lozenge (at 5.1 by 2.6 by 0.9 inches and 6.2 ounces). The device certainly isn't tiny, but it's less bulgy than the previous version. The Sidekick II's most unique feature is its huge,...

Lousy camera. No direct connection to PC. Bulky

The T-Mobile Sidekick II is great for personal e-mail, IM, and phone calls—as long as you don't mind the device's bulk.

T-Mobile Sidekick II review

Can T-Mobile lead a communication revolution in the UK?

If you can forgive its few flaws, we're sure you'll be at least mildly satisfied

T-Mobile Sidekick II

This chunky but funky little device " which isn't really designed with the corporate business user in mind " offers full web and webmail access, phone and basic PDA functionality and can be used for IM chat.

Inserting the SIM card is a little fiddly and we found it prone to popping out - something that wasn't terribly easy to sort out as the thick rubber cover was hard to remove. Otherwise, if you don't need corporate email access and can get by with...

T-Mobile - Sidekick II

Imagine a mobile phone that looks like a pocket-sized games console. Imaging adding a diary appointment to that phone and having it update a Web-accessible backup automatically. Now imagine that same phone with a built-in keyboard, ...

It all adds up to an interesting device. As far as it goes the Sidekick II performs its task well, unless you want to make voice calls or synchronise with a desktop computer, in which case it is only slightly less ergonomic to use than a chocolate...

Review: Sidekick II - T-Mobile's Cool New Smartphone

The Sidekick's appeal starts with its clever design. Like the first version, the Sidekick II uses a swivel screen that rotates 180 degrees out and up to reveal a decent-sized thumb-operated QWERTY keyboard

You can also make calls by selecting a number from your call history or selecting a number in your address book. Once you've dialed, you can activate the speakerphone

T-Mobile Sidekick II

Can this device finally offer the internet in your pocket in an affordable and usable package?

This is a neat device for carrying the internet around in your pocket, like a consumer version of corporate favourite the Blackberry.
