Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review: the best foldable of its kind

Samsung has made the Galaxy Z Fold 5 thinner and lighter, but does that make it worth buying? Oh yes, it really does. We explain why in our full review.

Thinner and lighter than ever Silent, high-quality hinge Strong multitasking tools Fun, social media-friendly camera Inner screen is perfect for games and video IPX8 and durable chassis

Battery life hasn't dramatically improved Slow charging

“The futuristic folding Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is thinner, lighter, and more powerful than ever before. It's the best big-screen folding smartphone you can buy.”

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 review

Gapless design, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 - that's the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 in a nutshell. But could the small step for...

New Flex hinge for gapless design.

Charging could have been faster.

But at the end of the day the Fold5 is an easy decision for any tech-addicted user, or any power user. In most countries it runs virtually unopposed as Chinese competitors are slow to bring their horizontal foldables to global markets. And when it does...

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review: a little better is just good enough

It's easy to measure the difference between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Z Fold 5: two millimeters.

Powerful multitasking features with a sleek inner screen experience ; New hinge folds flat ; Good software support policy, including four OS upgrades

Still expensive ; Still chunky and relatively heavy ; Long-term durability is still uncertain

Samsung may still have the lead in the foldable race, but the gap is closing. If it wants to stay ahead, it’ll have to do more next year than just nip a few millimeters and pop in a new chipset. For now, though, that’s just enough.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Review

Incredibly versatile ; Excellent productivity software ; Beautiful screens ; Slimmer, lighter design than previous generation

Pricey ; Odd speaker placement

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a foldable phone done right, with a sleeker, lighter build than previous models, loads of power, and genuinely useful continuity between its two screens.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review: The foldable leader holds steady

Thinner, lighter, flatter, faster

It folds flat ; Lighter and thinner ; A better mobile chipset means even peppier performance

The cover screen now feels too narrow ; The cameras are good but unchanged from the last model ; It's expensive and should include the S Pen in the price

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is a worthy successor to the Z Fold 4, bringing a flatter and lighter profile to an otherwise-familiar foldable formula. It's got ample power, versatility, and high-quality components and materials. But the same-as-last-year...

Hands on: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review

Samsung celebrates five years of Galaxy Z Fold with a series of subtle upgrades

Thinner and lighter than the Z Fold 4 ; Brighter screen than its predecessor ; Longer battery life than last year

Still plagued with the reflective screen and middle crease ; Screen is an awkward aspect ratio for watching movies

Samsung's latest foldable is a refinement of last year's device, for better and for worse; it's lighter and feature packed, but still not ideal for watching videos.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 Review: Not Getting Any Cheaper - SlashGear

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is the latest in the hero line of foldable smartphone devices, ready to do battle with new contender Google and its folding Pixel!

The best foldable display yet ; Top-tier back-facing camera array ; Finally folds flat ; Entire experience has moved beyond Early Adopter status ; Samsung's software makes transforming Android feel natural ; Beautiful hardware all-around

Still exceptionally expensive ; Should come with a protective case by default ; Charging speeds are still just OK

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5: know when to fold ’em

Design upgrades and slick software make this a powerful yet pricey fifth-gen foldable. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 promises productivity

Outstanding build quality and stylish looks – with no gap ; Top-tier performance and consistently good battery life ; Made for multitasking

Camera quality behind the best traditional flagship phones ; Pedestrian charging speeds

Minor improvements make all the difference; from software to camera quality, the Z Fold 5 is as good as foldable phones get. Just expect to pay dearly to get one in your pocket.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 review: A marginal improvement

Samsung's top-end foldable gets pricier but the upgrades are hard to spot

Thinner and lighter than Z Fold 5 ; Better battery life and performance ; Useful new software features

Even more expensive than last year ; Same cameras as last year ; S Pen isn’t included in the box

I’m not keen on the £100 price increase – £1,749 is an awful lot of money for a phone – but if you’re blessed with the funds and you’re a fan of the folding phone/tablet form factor, there isn’t anything better than the Galaxy Z Fold 5 right now.
