Samsung Jack

The Samsung Jack ($100 with a two-year contract from AT&T, as of June 22, 2009) handles work and play somewhat better than its predecessors, but the mobile-phone landscape has changed significantly in the 18 months since the BlackJack II came out. For...

Very slick physical design ; Very functional with minimal setup

Keys are cramped and poorly delineated ; Feels slippery and hard to hold on to

The Jack supports most major audio and video file formats (including AAC and MP4)--and you can buy music directly through AT&T's Mobile Music service--but the phone's external speakers aren't strong enough to encourage you to abandon your MP3 player of...

Samsung Jack SGH-i637 (AT&T)

Samsung refines its winning BlackJack formula with the Jack SGH-i637, a full-featured, luxuriously styled, and bargain-priced smartphone on AT&T.

Excellent value. Near-perfect form factor. Comfortable keyboard. Includes 3G and Wi-Fi radios. Good voice quality and reception. Solid battery life.

Clunky OS. Poor Web browser. Proprietary headphone jack requires a dongle. You need to pull the battery to switch microSD cards.

Samsung Jack (AT&T) review: Samsung Jack (AT&T)

By now, you've probably seen the TV commercials featuring Ozzy Osbourne and his new personal assistant, the Samsung Jack. The Jack is the successor to the Samsung BlackJack series and aside from the name change, the Windows Mobile smartphone brings an...

The Samsung Jack brings a fresh, updated look over its predecessor and includes a faster processor and better camera. Call quality is excellent, and the Windows Mobile smartphone offers 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth.

The Jack uses Samsung's proprietary ports, so you can't use a standard USB cable or headset. The phone feels slippery.

As the successor to the BlackJack series, the Samsung Jack brings a fresh look and some nice feature upgrades to make it one of AT&T's more solid and affordable messaging smartphones. However, we tend to favor the Nokia E71x's design.

Samsung Jack

What's hot: Compact, good keyboard

If you're a QWERTY-bar smartphone person who could care less about a touch screen and you're not tied to BlackBerry's email service, the Jack is a solid choice and one of the better Windows Mobile smartphones currently on the market. It's responsive by...

Samsung Jack Review

It is currently available from AT&T for $99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, which is an attractive price for a device that does many -- but not all -- things well

Very thin and light ; Five-way navigator is easy to use, without any misplaced/unintended button presses ; External speaker better than most ; Very good camera

Voice quality could be much better ; Performance is good, but not as snappy as it should be

It isn't a bad device, and the light weight, good navigation buttons, and nice external speaker as well as an excellent camera certainly speak in its favor. The price is also a great selling point -- just $99 after mail-in rebate. It's a nice...
