first one was DOA

This mobo is small, so consider that if you have a large cpu cooler that goes sideways in the case. My memory has heat pipe with a fin array and the cpu fan butted against it. I have to run the fan backwards drawing air from the rear, but not a huge...

Makes for a nice little system. I put 4G of DD2/800MHZ and a Core 2 Duo/1333. It is fast.

The first one wouldn't boot. It was a frustrating experience because I was using brand new everything and had no other system to verify the memory or cpu. I waited on hold for over an hour for Asus tech support (sucked). They determined it was bad, so...

Good Deal

Great basic home computer, too bad they don't just update the BIOS on these boards themselves though.

Easy install. Case is sturdy. BIOS is easy to get around and the updater worked great. Great barebone system for the average computer.

As mentioned in a prior review the BIOS Must be updated for this to recognize certain processors. In this case it was an Intel Core 2 Duo E8200. Might happen on any processor with 1333 FSB? Not difficult, as the system can be booted and installed...

Inexpensive, easy build box

For the price, not bad. Not exactly feature rich, but for basic to intermediate systems builds, it's fine.

Mostly decent space to work with. Cables were done neatly. Total hardware build time was 17 minutes.

Retail fan/heatsink install is terrifying. To seat the pushpins requires a LOT of pressure on the mobo. The lack of SATA power connectors. The lack of a case fan...DOH! Printed docs are useless.

Excellent Value

The PSU came switched to 230 instead of 115, so you might want to check it before you start pulling your hair out and assuming you've got a dead Mobo/Processor, lol.

1333 FSB and compatible with the new 45nm Intel Procs. The integrated Intel GMA 3100 video card does a fine job while using a minimal amount of system memory.

As stated by someone else, a Bios update is necessary to prevent problems with newer processors. I found the easiest method was to upload the bios .rom onto a thumb drive and use the Asus EZflash utility inside of the bios itself. Worked like a charm,...

Solid performer after Asus Forum Help

Aside from the bios, lan drivers and lack of SATA power connectors, this is a solid 775 barebones system. I've built at least half a dozen of these with various ASUS barebones systems and not one has had a problem.

Solid foundation, inexpensive and when paired with a pair of 2 gig DDR2 800 sticks and an E7200 CPU, is actually a nice quick system.

Only 2 ram slots.. not a huge deal if you're building from scratch as you should just buy 2 2gig sticks but if upgrading, it could mean you'd need to get higher capacity sticks.

its okay at best

get something with sata!

Not a terrible price, quality case material

Its been about a year and the USB ports are almost dead. Wireless HID devices and card readers will work, but anything requiring a good amount of power wont like external hdd's, or a ipod/zune/phone will NOT. I kept getting delayed write failure erros,...

ASUS V2-M2V890 AMD Socket AM2 VIA K8M890 Barebone - Retail

I recommend it for those that need a simple desktop for internet browsing and office productivity. Nice entry level machine with room for upgrades.

Pre-assembled mobo and case. No need to connect power switch, HDD LED connectors, etc. Used a Athlon X2 64 4800+ CPU. Quiet PSU fan. Easy to work with.

PSU's 250 Watt is spare. Doesn't come with case fan.

On Board NIC not Linux compatible

Cheap Sturdy Reliable

NIC changed to Realtek 8110 which isn't compatible with some Linux Distros like CentOS4 I have been using these for about a year with CentOS 4 for a backup box. The last three have a different NIC built in and that sucks.

Just fine

For what it is, a entry level package, its pretty good. I bought it for a small HTPC and it worked great. Installed Ubuntu + MythTV and it's great. Was even able to get video acceleration working through xvmc. That and a relatively low powered cpu...

Works just fine - after bios update. Gigabit Ethernet, onboard video, small package.

Never got my rebate. :(
