Samsung Galaxy Buds review: A waste of good design

Unlike Samsung's previous true wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds are tailor-made for its recent smartphones. To employ key features like volume control, you have to sacrifice other handy tools, and even then, the touch controls are frustrating. These...

Reliable connectivity ; Solid battery life ; PowerShare charging with the S10 line

Average audio quality ; Frustrating touch controls ; On-board volume control requires sacrificing other features ; Disappointing microphone quality for calls

Samsung Galaxy Buds review: An Android-friendly AirPods alternative

There are other truly wireless earphones that sound better, but the next iteration of Samsung's totally wireless earphones are a definite improvement over their predecessors.

These compact, lightweight noise-isolating true wireless earphones should fit most ears securely. They sound decent, battery life is good (around 6 hours at moderate volume levels) and their compact charging case offers USB-C wired and wireless charging.

Bass isn't all that deep; charging case only delivers a little more than one full charge; certain features only work with Android phones.

Although their sound quality doesn't wow, the Galaxy Buds are certainly worth considering if you're a Samsung Galaxy or Android phone owner.

Samsung Galaxy Buds

Samsung's wire-free Galaxy Buds earphones deliver fantastic audio performance for a reasonable price, which is enough to overcome some dubious marketing claims.

Excellent audio performance with rich, full bass and bright, well-defined highs. Easy to operate. Solid mic intelligibility in quiet spaces.

Poor mic intelligibility in loud scenarios. So-so charging case battery life. Not waterproof.

Sonically, Samsung's Galaxy Buds are excellent—AKG does a good job of balancing rich, full bass with clarity in the highs. As for ease of use, the Galaxy Buds are also winners, with on-ear controls that work as advertised, and not just with Galaxy...

Samsung Galaxy Buds review: imperfectly acceptable

Getting as many things right as they get wrong.

Light, discreet, comfortable design ; Legit six-hour battery life ; Tiny case with wireless charging ; Better sound isolation than Apple’s AirPods

Bass-shy sound doesn’t rise above average ; Flaky Bluetooth connectivity ; Poor microphone performance

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds are probably the best freebie that a company has ever bundled with a smartphone preorder, but they fall significantly short of claiming the title of best true wireless earbuds. Great for Samsung owners, but everyone else should...

Samsung Galaxy Buds review: Keeping it simple

For its latest wire-free earphone creation, Samsung has stripped back the features and focused on what's really important. Has it worked?

Small and comfortable to wear ; Case has wireless charging ; Sound quality is decent for the money ; Battery life for the category is great

Touch-sensitive panels take some getting used to ; Only one extra charge from the case (not two) ; Bluetooth connectivity isn't always reliable

By stripping away the fitness-tracking smarts and focusing on the key features - namely battery life and comfort - Samsung has made a genuine AirPod contender at an even lower price point. Problem is the wireless connectivity isn't perfect.

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

Can Samsung's AirPod rivals steal the Bluetooth bud crown?

Comfy, flexible, noise-isolating design ; Ambient Sound mode is awesome ; Wireless charging ; They also work with iOS

Battery life could be better ; Touch controls take some getting used to ; Ambient Sound doesn’t work on iOS

The best all-round wireless buds you can get. For now.

Samsung Galaxy Buds review

Small buds with a big sound

Comfortable, secure fit ; Stylish design ; Easy to pair and use ; Powerful bass

Ambient sound can be irritating ; Touch controls not always accurate

If you have a Samsung or other Android phone, the Galaxy Buds offer easy connectivity, a comfortable fit, and a warm, bassy sound. If you don’t, you may miss out on some cool extra features offered by the Samsung Galaxy wearables app.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Review

The Samsung Galaxy Buds are decent, mixed usage, truly wireless headphones. They're comfortable and well-built, and their sound is decent and suitable for a wide...

Decent audio reproduction.;Comfortable and durable design.;Long single charge battery life for truly wireless headphones.

Very high latency.;Connection stability issues.;In-ear fit might not be comfortable for everyone.

Samsung Galaxy Buds review: Middling performance

The Galaxy Buds are super comfortable and have wireless charging, but you can do better for the money

Comfortable ; Instant pairing ; Charging case can be wirelessly charged

Poor audio quality ; Inconsistent touch controls ; Problematic wireless transmission

However, if all you want is a decent pair of true wireless headphones to go with your existing phone, they make a far less convincing case for themselves, with lacklustre sound quality and spotty connectivity outweighing the Galaxy Buds’ undoubted...
