DxO One

The DxO One is a small camera that plugs into an iPhone to radically improve the quality of photos you can take while on the go.

Small ; Good image quality ; Solid app

Exposure often needs a tweak ; Fiddly to use ; Unimpressive AF and shooting performance

DxO One review

Is iPhone is your camera of choice? Then the DxO One will elevate your photography.

1-inch, 20MP sensor ; 32-mm equivalent, f/1.8 lens ; Lightning and Wi-Fi connections ; SuperRAW and RAW uncompressed files ; Great software, UI

High price for a niche camera ; Not for fast action ; No support for Android phones

Although we love the concept, software, convenience, and results of the DxO One, it is expensive. It is also restricted to iOS only, at least for now. For the same price, you can get the original RX100 with a 3x Zeiss optical zoom lens and even greater...

DxO One

The DxO One is an innovative add-on camera for iPhones, designed to boost the quality of the shots you take with your device, but it's plagued by too many issues to recommend.

Very small. 1-inch image sensor. Wide aperture f/1.8 lens. Sharp images. Innovative concept.

Overheats. Short battery life. SuperRAW processing requires a lot of CPU time. Questionable connection design. Inconsistent focus speed. Expensive. Only compatible with iOS devices.

Conclusions The DxO One is another in a line of cameras that has promised to revolutionize smartphone photography. But it's got too many problems for a product that's being sold to consumers, especially at its $600 price point. Overheating and battery...

DxO One review

DxO puts its optics design and image correction knowhow into a 20Mp camera for your iPhone

High quality sensor ; Easy connectivity ; Excellent iPhone integration

Care needed to avoid covering the lens ; Poor battery life ; Slow access from a locked iPhone

If you want an iPhone accessory to help you take better images, this is a good option, provided you don't mind the extra bit of fiddling about to access the app compared to the quick route to the iPhone camera from a locked screen. However, despite the...

DxO One review

Sony invented the phone-connected-camera category with its lens-style QX series of lens cameras , followed this year by Olympus' similarly designed Air A01 . Those rely on Wi-Fi to connect to a phone or tablet , and essentially perform wireless...

The DxO One's notable strengths include a well thought-out and attractive design and excellent photo quality on-par with its class.

It's expensive, and it's a little slow with short battery life.

It's a good camera and unquestionably better than that of any iPhone, but the DxO One isn't no-brainer-better than other options for the money. Yet.

#1 in France: Hands-on with DxO ONE

The DxO ONE is a 20MP camera with a 32mm equivalent F1.8 lens, which is designed to be used in combination with an Apple iPhone. As well as being DxO's first foray into photographic hardware, it's also - arguably - the first truly 'connected' camera,...

DxO One review: The iPhone add-on camera's highs and lows

The DxO One is an interesting camera concept, one designed specifically as an add-on for iPhones with the Lightning connector port. The idea is simple: the One delivers the same 1-inch sensor size as found in the Sony RX100 MkIII high-end compact ,...

Great image quality from the 1-inch sensor (same as Sony RX100 MkIII), it's a full-on camera you can fit into your pocket, easy Lightning port connectivity, doesn't drain iPhone battery

Expensive, focus point position sometimes over-ridden, some software bugs/crashes, independent battery (can't draw from iPhone), iOS only, shutter button position not great with iPhone 6 Plus, fussy to stow Lightning connector

DXO One review - is it better than your iPhone's camera?

A clever idea, but the DXO One is expensive, fiddly to use with an iPhone and I found myself leaving it behind

The acid test for a product like this is how much you use it. During my time with the DXO One, I found it more of a chore than a pleasure to use. It’s simply too fiddly to use conveniently, the iPhone typically produces better-exposed images with more...

DxO One review: This iPhone-connected camera isn't The One to get just yet

Sony invented the phone-connected-camera category with its lens-style QX series of lens cameras, followed this year by Olympus' similarly designed Air A01. Those rely on Wi-Fi to connect to a phone or tablet, and essentially perform wireless tethered...
