Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player

An entry-level Blu-ray player that fails to stand out from the crowd

Great DVD upscaling and HD video performance, excellent user-interface, responsive remote control

Light on extra features, no front USB port, it's practically the same price as its fancier stable mate

The Sony BDP-S360 is a reasonably priced Blu-ray player that does the basics well. However, the Sony BDP-S560 is also reasonably priced -- and it comes with two USB ports and inbuilt Wi-Fi.

Sony BDP-S360 review

Sony's budget Blu-ray deck has a basic spec, but striking pictures

User interface ; Picture quality

No built-in memory or multichannel outputs ; Won't play media via USB ; Slow disc loading

If you want snazzy features look elsewhere, otherwise impressive pictures and a smart operating system save the day

Sony BDP-S360 review

Sony adds another Blu-ray player to its range, and with this kind of performance and pricing, it's a welcome addition too

Smooth operator thanks in part to Xross Media Bar ; solid spec ; silky smooth motion and bold colours with DVD and Blu-ray ; fast, exciting sound

You can pay a bit more to get a touch more detail in audio and video

It’s nigh-on impossible to gripe with what’s on offer here for £240

Sony BDP-S360

Sony's most affordable player, the energy-efficient BDP-S360 serves up stellar picture quality with both high- and standard-definition discs.

Excellent standard DVD upconversion. Very energy-efficient.

Quick Start feature increases power consumption. Optional memory required for BD-Live support. No streaming multimedia features.

Sony BDP-S360 review

Blu-ray may have started out as a mess, with confusing "profiles" and painfully slow load times, but beginning this year standalone players have finally gotten their acts together. Sony's entry-level BDP-S360 is typical of the new breed of Blu-ray...

Profile 2.0-compatible; onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential; excellent video quality on most Blu-ray movies.

Cannot access streaming video services such as Netflix; no Wi-Fi option; no eject button on the remote; relatively slow load times; recessed USB port.

The Sony BDP-S360 handles all the Blu-ray basics with ease, but it lacks the streaming Internet content found on competing models.

Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray player

If the recession has eaten into your Blu-ray player budget then all is not lost - there are some great-value decks on the market that deliver the high-def basics without making a large dent in your savings. We've already looked at the Samsung BD-P1600...

Rich detailed pictures, BD Live, operating system

Limited media support, no USB media playback, clunky disc loading

If you’re looking for your first Blu-ray player then the BDP-S360 is a definite candidate for your cash. The feature list is unduly sparse, but its user-friendly operating system, BD Live support and solid picture quality just about make it money well...

Sony BDP-S360 Blu-ray Player

Blu-ray players were the next big thing a couple of years ago, but it's only now that it is catching up here. (More and more Bollywood movies are being released in Blu-ray.) That is the key - once the market is created products will pick up, and the...

Rs. 19,990 is the price of this model, and seems pretty worth it due to nothing other than its solid performance. There are no extra features, or gimmicks, just a solidly built player with better than decent video performance.

Sony BDP-S360 review

If there's one criticism we can level at the Blu-ray format, it's that it's just too expensive to tempt most people away from DVDs. Although Blu-ray's picture and sound quality is miles ahead, most people think the quality of their standard-definition...

Low price; attractive styling; easy to use; great picture quality.

Disappointing load times.

If you want an entry-level Blu-ray player that does the basics and offers solid picture and sound quality, we can't recommend the Sony BDP-S360 enough. There aren't too many extras, such as networked media-streaming capability or support for hi-def...

Sony BDP-S360 review

Profile 2.0 is naturally supported, along with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. However, a lack of extra features and a handful of minor design glitches have brought down the overall quality of the product. The Sony BDP-S360 is certainly not a bad...
