Jawbone Jambox vs. Soundmatters foxL v2... fight!

Two portable speakers clamber into the ring, each boasting big, beautiful sound for their diminutive size. Both cost $200. Both have the same technology

Powerful sound belies tiny size ; Superb audio quality at lower volumes ; Decent speakerphone

Mild distortion at high volume ; Middling battery life ; Pricey

Soundmatters Foxl v2 Bluetooth

This small, wireless speaker you can use with your phone or media player pumps out some solid bass for its size, but the Soundmatters Foxl v2 Bluetooth isn't a good-enough speakerphone to be worth its $200 price tag.

Very small. Decent music sound quality and bass response for its size.

Subpar voice call quality. Disappointing, empty treble.

Soundmatters FoxL v2 (black) review

When we reviewed the first edition of the Soundmatters FoxL Personal Audiophile Loudspeaker (Bluetooth) last year, its small footprint and large soundstage over a wired connection blew us away. We preferred the Bluetooth-free model , since the wireless...

Redesigned internal architecture improves Bluetooth audio quality compared with the first model; tough outer casing can take a beating; proprietary BassBattery delivers impressive low-end response; pairs easily with A2DP Bluetooth audio players.

Pricey.

The Soundmatters FoxL v2 Bluetooth portable speaker offers excellent sound in a compact candy-bar design and has the added benefit of phone conferencing using the built-in speakerphone. Despite its lofty price tag, the FoxL v2 is a simple, worthwhile...

Review: Soundmatters FoxLv2 Speaker

Solid Bluetooth compatible speaker for Mac or iOS devices.

Small, solidly built ; Good sound ; Works well as a speakerphone ; Can charge via USB ; Comes with all the pieces you need

Somewhat lacking in bass ; Power switch is hard to use

For the past few months, I've been using the FoxLv2 Bluetooth speaker from SoundMatters for listening to music and as a speakerphone with my iPhone 3G. The portable FoxL is a small speaker system, 5.6 wide, 2.2 high, and 1.4 deep, that delivers impre

First Looks: Soundmatters Foxl v2 Portable Speaker

For the audiophile on the move, traveling is no reason to subject your ears to sub-standard sound. Luckily Soundmatters lends a helping hand with a splendid portable, wireless speaker in the shape of the Foxl v2.

Undoubtedly one of the best performing wireless speakers we've tested out recently, the Foxl v2 from Soundmatters is a joy to listen. In fact, it sounds better than many entry-level dedicated 2.0 and 2.1-channel speaker systems in the market. An...

Soundmatters foxL v2.2 speaker

Getting great sound out of a small package is one of the holy grails of the tech world. Over the years we've reviewed any number of small speaker systems and, while some have come close, none have been excellent.

Amazing sound for the size; excellent build quality; easy to use

Low-level hum on review unit

Soundmatters makes much of the fact that the foxL was developed by a rocket scientist – soundmatters founder Dr Godehard Guenther, who is a physicist and former NASA engineer with three PhDs. And well they should, because Guenther’s expertise has just...

Soundmatters FoxL Personal Audiophile Loudspeaker Review

One of the benefits of doing gadget reviews is coming across a product that is so cool, so unexpected, and so jaw-dropping that it's almost magical. When you first see the small Soundmatters FoxL speaker, you might think it could work as a personal...

Seems to bend the laws of physics ; Fun to impress friends with its audio ; Small and portable ; Well built ; Easy to set up and use

Expensive ; Quirky design issues ; Bluetooth compromises the audio ; iPhone did not initially want to connect

Review: Soundmatters foxL – The Little Speaker That Could

Whoever coined the saying “good things come in small packages”, was probably thinking of the Soundmatters foxL v2 speakers.

Superb sound for its size ; Great build quality ; Practically pocketable

Hefty price tag ; Could use a little more bass

If you’re a road warrior and you have some moolah to spend on speakers, the foxL is the way to go.
