The AONIC Free aren't the most modern in terms of their design and lack of smarts, but the sound the Shure earphones offer impresses
Clear, detailed and dynamic sound ; Nice range of in-app customisation ; Very good call quality ; Physical buttons
Average battery ; Stripped-down feature set ; Getting them to fit can be a struggle ; Prosaic looks and gigantic case
A pair of wireless earphones that aren’t the most modern in terms of their design sensibility and lack of features; but the sound the Shure AONIC Free offer is a disciplined and versatile one.

Big and clever
Exemplary sound quality ; Foolproof interface with impressive control app ; Comfortable fit
Limited battery life ; Big ‘buds, big case ; No active noise cancellation

The next big thing, both physically and in terms of sound quality
Accurate, clear presentation ; Analytical and spacious ; Intuitive app
Case is bulky
Surprisingly big but surprisingly comfortable, the Shure Aonic Free are agile, clear and analytical true wireless solutions

These chunky earbuds sound superb - read our full thoughts on their performance.
Truly great sound ; Strong passive isolation ; Comfortable despite size ; Good app with customisation
Large case ; Bulky design ; Middling battery life ; No active noise-cancelling (ANC)
These earbuds are pretty chunky, but their sound quality almost entirely makes up for it - we just love listening to music while wearing them.

Never mind the width, listen to the quality - it's all here
Outstanding across-the-board sound quality ; Great control app ; Comfortable (as unlikely as that might seem)
Big earbuds, big charging case… ; …and yet disappointing battery life ; No ANC
Ignore (if you can) the bog-standard battery life, the rather gawky looks and the lack of active noise-cancelling, and you’ll find the AONIC Free among the very best sub-£200 earbuds around

The Shure Aonic Free earbuds bring audiophile sound and passive noise reduction to rival more sophisticated designs with active noise cancelling tech.
Audiophile sound ; Trusty fit via Comply Foam tips ; Effective noise isolation ; Useful ambient-listening mode ; Extensive Bluetooth range
Large charging case has mediocre battery top-up capacity ; Buggy companion app ; No wireless charging or multipoint technology

The Shure Aonic Free TWS earbuds don't feature Active Noise Cancellation, but aims to beat it with superior audio. Here's what we think about the earbuds.

Shure is looking beyond just audiophiles with the Aonic Free by making them affordable and accessible enough to compete with others. As good as this debut pair sound, they come with caveats you may not want to pay for.
Superb sound quality ; Foam tips are awesome ; Environment Mode works well ; Excellent EQ support ; Reliable onboard controls
No ANC ; Just OK battery life ; No multipoint connections ; No water resistance rating ; No wireless charging
The Shure Aonic Free are huge by wireless earbuds standards, and packed into their larger frame are components that deliver excellent audio performance, helped further by the awesome foam tips they come with. The trouble is you have to give up key...
