OVER 5 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING STRONG!
I have used this GPS for over 5 years. I plan routes with it using data track software to upload WP etc. Also it is simple to modify the WP route files to give you a whole week of walking routes.
Quick to lock ; It is waterproof ; Easy to use
It does sometimes go mental, but this has only happened twice and a power cycle cures it ; Only 29 WP per route, but multiple routes can be made to overcome this

It does the job well.
Actually, I think this might be waterproof - the Magellan Rep at the Magellan stand at a show said that not only was it waterproof, but it was also bouyant. The manaul specifications, say that housing is waterproof.
Serial link support, flash upgradable, adapted to both sea and land. Well known, so easily supported by GPS software
Screen scratches easily ; altitude measurements can be a little unreliable ; High centre of gravity means you can't stand it up anywhere if you're moving in a car or on a boat

Not waterproof
The problem with all handheld Magellan GPS receivers marketed to us 'outdoors' land nav types is that none of them are waterproof. The 315 and others are rated to a maximum water resistance of IPX2, that is they are built to withstand a 'light...
Lots of features for the price
Not waterproof, occasional problems locking signal, power/backlight buttons not sufficiently resistant to accidental operation when packed inside a ruck
