Includes connected services ; Uses TomTom's excellent IQ routes technology
Traffic service not as useful as it could be ; Expensive
The addition of connected services should make TomTom's excellent devices even better, but some deliver uneven results.

Web access is popping up in everything. If you make a product and don't offer access to the intertubes, you might as well toss it...
Svelte, smooth-to-touch design and construction. Decent signal-acquisition times (average of four minutes on a cold start). Sports both Bluetooth audio and file exchange capabilities. Intuitive, touch-based interface and menu tree. Allows instant...
Navigational interface displays waaay too much information at one time (speed, distance, current time, arrival time, current street, next turn, distance to turn, etc.). Sketchy voice recognition doesn’t cut it. Web-enabled services are only free for...

Route calculations are slow, particularly from a moving vehicle. High entry cost only includes three months of service.
The TomTom GO 740 Live puts a tremendous amount of information at your fingertips and makes it easy to access and process it all from the driver's seat.

Connected devices, which integrate a cellular radio for up-to-the minute data delivery, haven't had an easy time establishing themselves in the GPS market. The first, the Dash Express, was unsuccessful, and Dash Navigation exited the hardware market...
Integrated data connection for live traffic updates, weather, and fuel information and Google Local Search. TomTom's free Map Share helps keeps your maps up-to-date. IQ Routes. Advanced lane guidance
Live services require a monthly subscription after three-month trial period expires. Many voice functions also require touch-screen input. Relatively small internal POI database
TomTom's full-featured GO 740 LIVE sets the new standard for connected GPS devices, but its voice recognition features still need improvement.

This wireless data connection allows the TomTom Go 740 Live to download information relevant to your journey, such as traffic, weather and fuel prices. While these connected services are a useful addition, they didn't always make my commute easier -...
The TomTom Go 740 Live lists for £279 inc VAT, and the connected services are £10 per month, though you get three months free when you buy the device. If the traffic services were better, they might be worth that price. As they stand, though, we'd opt...

TomTom refuses to rest on its market-share laurels, and so we have another iteration of the best-selling and award-winning Go range. This 740 is the middle of three x40 versions, and gets UK and European maps. The 540 has UK maps, with the option to...
Maps are, as ever with TomTom, very clear although the heavily stylised chunky maps do struggle slightly with complicated junctions, and the software sometimes opts to announce ‘bear right’ at what most people would consider a full ‘turn right'...
