Brother MFC-8840 laser

Fast; inexpensive; good print quality; extensive fax features.

Mediocre scan quality, especially color.

Brother's MFC-8440 covers the bases and is easy to use, but it's a weak choice for scanning.

Built in ethernet, great print quality, fast printer, very flexible

Color scanning is *slow* (think 2+ minutes per page at 300 dpi color!), software install process is cumbersome, and no "scan to memory card" functionality like on other Brother MFCs
