With its wealth of photo-manipulation features, the Canon Pixma MP800 is a great choice for an amateur photo hobbyist.

Great colour graphics and fine-looking photos. Scans quickly. Individual ink tanks. Prints double-sided pages. PC and Mac ready. Decent paper handling. IrDA, PictBridge, memory card input.

Text quality is sub par.

With its wealth of photo-manipulation features, the Canon Pixma MP800 is a great choice for an amateur photo hobbyist. It's also fast at all tasks, which makes it a better choice than the HP Photosmart 3310.

I would definately consider buying a canon unit again. I found it pretty easy to use, and I usually don't bother reading instruction manuals. I love how it is designed to do a large variety of jobs. The only drawback is the ink price - I don't bother...

This unit has been pretty reliable. The scan & print quality are excellent. The screen menus are easy to read & understand. The ink cartridges are easy to remove and install. Its a pretty solid unit with a great variety of functions in one.

The ink price is excessive and it seems to use a lot of it. It costs between $26-$30 per cartridge. It doesn't always detect the CD in the tray when trying to print a label. Sometimes the manual feed tray doesn't drag the paper in straight and you end...

Excellent

 

Overall if you want a high quality printer this is the way to go. I have has no problems so far with the printer since I purchased it in 2006. The only thing which concerns me is the price of ink.

The printer can scan and photocopy at a high quality with the choice of colour or not. The ability to scan negatives and print on CDs and DVDs is also good. Photos and documents print out with clarity beyond many other competitors capabilities. Also...

Cost of ink - a huge issue over $120 for the full set - Calidad inks are cheaper though.
